I'm new to Silent Hill, I haven't played any of the games and I was looking into purchasing a game for the 360. Which would you say is the best to buy? The games are Silent Hill HD Collection (includes Silent Hill 2 and 3), Silent Hill Homecoming and Silent Hill Downpour.

Mmm… while I did enjoy both Homecoming and Downpour, I honestly wouldn’t say to start off with them, since they’re pretty big base breakers among people and are a lot more ”love it or hate it” compared to some of the other original games. Downpour’s also a bit new, so its price is still pretty high up there.
The HD Collection I think would be good, since you’re getting two games packed into one, and 2 and 3 tend to be the fan favorites for people anyway. The only downside is that, because of this kinda ugly business situation I don’t really feel like delving into, the games have new, re-recorded voice acting. They can be switched back to the original for 2, but not for 3. Some people like it, most people hate it, but oh well! I’ve also heard there have been some technical issues, but I don’t actually own the HD Collection so I can’t entirely vouch for that.
OTHERWISE I still think you should give the HD Collection a try! Stories and monsters and gameplay are still all the same, so it should still be a good choice if you want to get into the series.
But whatever you decide to do, I just hope you end up enjoying these games as much as I do! (*・∇・)ﾉ
